A damaged expandable garden hose is repairable. While a patchwork tactic will work in the short term, it will likely re-tear once high pressure is forced through the tubing. A permanent solution is to break the hose and use connectors to join them back together.
How do you fix a retractable hose that won’t retract?
Adjust spring tension by adding wraps of hose. Pull out approximately 10 feet of hose. Hand feed hose back up through roller bracket assembly until loop is large enough to slip over sheave. Add two or three wraps until desired tension is achieved.
Do expandable hoses break easily?
Because of the materials that hoses are made from, they may be susceptible to tears and punctures. They also shouldn’t be used around sharp objects. With a bit of extra care, your expandable hose will last many years.
